Graduate Student Library Workshop Series


 




The Dentistry Library Graduate Student Library Workshop Series is back!

Are you a researcher, faculty member, current graduate student or an undergraduate student thinking of gradschool? If so, then these workshops are for you! These lunch hour workshops are designed to help you make your searching and research easier, faster and more powerful. This workshops series runs from July 21st to July 24th in the Dentistry Library Computer Lab (266C).

Monday July 21st

Tuesday July 22nd
12:00 – 1:00: eRL 101: eSearching, Research and the Library 101*  

Wednesday July 23rd
12:00 – 12:20: Briefs: Publishing Pointers 101* 
12:30 - 12:50: Briefs: Measuring up! Metrics, H-Indexes and Impact Factors*  

Thursday July 24th
12:00 – 1:00: Everything You Wanted to Know about EndNote Web*

Monday July 21st, 2014

Thesis/Dissertation Writing (1 hour workshop)
Learn the structure of a thesis/dissertation and what you are expected to do in each section. Get advice on scientific language use (such as verb tenses and punctuation).  Get information on working one-on-one with a writing instructor as you go through the thesis/dissertation process.

eRL 101: eSearching, Research and the Library 101 (1 hour workshop)
Did you know that U of T has some eResources that even Harvard University does not have? Some students and researchers have said to us that U of T has so many eResources that they don’t know where to start.  If that sounds like you, come out to our eRL 101 workshop and learn about U of T’s online tools including databases, citation management and libguides.  Whether you are new to U of T or have been here a while you are sure to learn something new at this workshop!

Wednesday July 23rd, 2014

Briefs: Publishing Pointers 101 (20 minute workshop)
This lightning fast workshop will give you some publishing tips learned from journal editors, publishers, experienced researchers and trial and error attempts at publishing.  If you want to find out what editors say is the biggest reason they reject a paper or just general tips on how to improve your article then this is a must go to workshop!

Briefs: Measuring up! Metrics, H-Indexes and Impact Factors (20 minute workshop)
This quick 20 minute workshop is aimed to show you the basics of citation metrics and how you can use the eResources at U of T to determine different types of metrics.  Metrics can be a great tool to use to help you determine where to publish or see who is a publishing wiz in your field!

Thursday July 24th, 2014
Everything You Wanted to Know about EndNote Web (1 hour workshop)
Just spent a half hour searching for great references in a database, then you go to import them into EndNote Web so you can prepare a bibliography for your paper… Wait… hold on! What are all these hieroglyphics? Did you know that when you import to EndNote Web you have to apply the right filter to make references display correctly? If you are a passionate current user of EndNote Web or want to learn if EndNote Web is right for you come to this hands-on workshop and learn more about EndNote Web.
