Root caries: from prevalence to therapy / by M.R.O. Carrilho
Karger, 2017

Bacause this is a global trend, it is likely that the predicted increase in the worldwide elderly population may soon cause a significant increase in the number of people requiring effective means of preventing and treating root surface caries. In response to this development, a team of outstanding contributors has reviewed the most important aspects of root caries. this new volume presents their findings along with discussion of how to deal with this health issue that progressively affects the oral health balance." "Although the field of sports dentistry is ever changing, the primary objectives of this book remain the same: to inform dental and medical practitioners how to deal with orofacial trauma, both in the field of play and within the surgery environment; to introduce the concept of dental screening, particularly during pre‐season assessments; to prevent dental trauma of both an acute and chronic nature, acute being direct trauma to hard and soft tissues, chronic being tooth surface loss as a result of erosion; and to investigate the role nutrition plays in elite and amateur athletes, with a view to reducing the need for them to require reparative restorative dentistry in the long term". From preface.

"The textbook takes the reader through every clinical scenario, from the fully edentulous to partially edentulous, including the patient missing a single tooth. The chapters clearly delineate the different thought processes the clinician must go through when treating the functional (posterior) zone versus the esthetic (anterior) zone. The chapters are very well illustrated with the authors’ documented cases, highlighting the concepts and biologic principles that the surgical and restorative team must consider. There is equal focus on the restorative and surgical aspects of implant dentistry and procedures for both specialties are thoroughly covered with systematic reviews followed by a measurement of strength and level of certainty for the treatment recommendations". From preface.
